Bernardino “Nino” Salgado Jr., 83, of Monahans, Texas gained his wings and went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, November 9, 2020. Nino was born in Dalbert, Texas on July 1, 1937 to his parents, Bernardino and San Juana Salgado.

Nino attended school in Sierra Blanca, Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Elisa Morales on October 25, 1958. Shortly after their marriage, they began their life together in Monahans, Texas where they have resided up to the time of his death.

Nino started his career with the Texas Highway Department in which he worked for 20 years. After, he was the owner and operator of “Nino’s Gulf” Service Station. Finally, he later retired from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

One of his greatest passions was his love for Basketball. He was known in the community for coaching Little League Baseball. His team, the “Red Sox” brought his so much joy for 19 years. The love of the game and for his players was one that built wonderful memories and friendships that he always treasured.

Anyone who knew Nino knew that he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family with all his heart.

Nino is preceded in death by his parents; Bernardino and San Juan Salgado, sister; Felina Murphy and brother; Utimio Salgado.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Elisa Salgado, his daughter, Susie Thomas of Monahans, Texas, grandson; Chris Newman and wife Leah of Monahans, Texas, granddaughter; Amber Newman of Monahans, Texas, great-granddaughters; Alyssa Brown of Monahans, Texas, Ashlee Newman and fiancé Nate Gonzales of Cedar Park, Texas, Taylor Newman and Alliejo Newman of Waco, Texas, sister; Berta Granado and husband Richard of San Antonio, Texas, and brother; Lazaro Salgado and wife Linda of El Paso, Texas.

You will forever be truly missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Until we meet again!

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020 at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020 at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home.
