Billy John Redmon, 79, of Monahans, passed away on October 16, 2023, in Odessa.
Billy was born November 10, 1943, to Bruce and Josie Redmon in Cryil, Oklahoma.
His family moved to Monahans in 1946 leaving dry land farming behind to work in the West Texas oilfields.
Billy attended schools in Monahans until he left school to join the workforce to help his widowed mother. He later received his GED. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Military Police. After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Monahans where he met and married Joyce Moore in 1962. They made their home in Monahans 1 with their 3 children until she passed away in 2008. Billy was a welder in the oilfield specializing in fabrication work. He loved a challenge and was often requested when a well blew out and precision was needed.
He was self-employed for many years as owner of Redmon Welding and even started his own Salsa business, Billy’s Way Out West Pican te Salsa which he sold in local grocery stores in Monahans, Ft. Stockton, Pecos, Ft. Davis, and Alpine. He loved gardening and farmers markets.
He also loved making old family recipes of homemade candies during the holidays. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Josie Redmon, sisters Mil Steen, Marie Wells, Elizabeth Jo Carroll, Annie Events, brothers, Richard Coss, Jimmy Redmon, Leroy Redmon, wife Joyce Redmon. He is survived by his children Billy R. Redmon and wife Malinda, Johnny Redmon and wife Judy, daughters Sherry Hunter and husband Paul. Grandchildren Reagan Redmon and wife Kim, Megan Redmon, Hannah Redmon, Jeremy Durr and Haley Hunter.
He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his little dog Chloe. Pall Bearers will be Johnny Puckett, Mike Gandy, Bob Kizziar, Ronnie Brandenburg, Wes Davis, and Jackie Redmon.
Public visitation will be Friday, October 20th from 9 a.m. To 8 p.m. at Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans.
The funeral will be Saturday, October 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Monahans, with Reverend Gordan Cox officiating. Burial will follow at the Monahans Cemetery. Donations can be made in his honor to the missions fund at Bethal Baptist Church.
