Boyd Wayne Benton, 89, of Midland, Texas passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 in Big Springs, Texas.
Boyd, affectionately known as "Big Daddy" and "Bucket" by those who loved him, was born in Dublin, Texas to Allie Mae Benton on July 24, 1927. He attended Tarleton State University and was the first athlete to letter in both basketball and football in the same year. He left college to join the Navy during WWII, where he served on the USS Ottawa, the USS Taconic and was stationed at Norfolk, VA. He married his beautiful wife, Judy, in March 1967. They were married for almost 50 years. Boyd worked for Bass Enterprise from January 1948 to July 1992. His career spanned 45 years and he retired as a Division Office Manager. Boyd was also the Assistant Governor of The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.
He loved to travel, the Dallas Cowboys and all sports. Bucket could often be found at a Super Bowl game with his friends or the deck of a cruise ship with his family. Big Daddy was happiest holding his newborn grandchildren and being surrounded by family. He was a man that instilled an excellent work ethic in his children and was often heard asking, "Did you make a hand today?" He raised a beautiful family that will miss him every day.
Boyd is proceeded in death by his mother, Allie Mae Benton, and great granddaughter Lainey Stout.
His is survived by his wife, Judy. His children, Roy Scott, Ricky Scott, Kristen Scott, Don Benton, Dee Benton, Devin Benton and Mark Martinets. His grandchildren, Shea, Ashton, Shawn, Shannon, Jessa, Danielle, Regan, Jeff, Rachel, Matthew, John, James, Andrew and Hannah. His great grandchildren, Kenzie, Emery, Taylor, Zeke, and Greyson , And his dog and best friend, Angel.
Pallbearers will be Roy Scott, Ricky Scott, Don Benton, Dee Benton, Devin Benton and Mark Martinets.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Friday September 30, 2016 at Harkey Funeral Home, with Jeppie Wilson officiation, visitation before the memorial starting at noon, burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery with military honors render by the United States Navy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home.
