Carla Youngblood

Carla Jean (Hodges) Youngblood, age 90, a longtime resident of Monahans, went to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family, on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas.
Carla Jean (Hodges) Youngblood was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on April 13, 1927, to Charles Anderson Hodges and Alta Lorraine (Evans) Hodges. She attended Sapulpa High School. In the mid-‘50s she moved to Monahans, Texas, and later attended and graduated from the School of Vocational Nursing in Kermit, Texas, in August of 1970. She worked as a nurse over the years in both Pecos and Monahans and retired from the Ward Memorial Hospital in 1985. In their later years, Carla Jean and her late husband, William, worked mapping and cataloging the Monahans Memorial Cemetery and donated their records and maps for archival purposes.
Carla Jean is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Melinda Cope, of Mesquite, Texas; a daughter, Ellen Friar, of Monahans, Texas; a daughter, Kay Soderstrom and husband Dean, of Midland, Texas; a grandson, Jason Cope, of Flower Mound, Texas; a grandson, Darin G. Cope, of Mesquite, Texas; a grandson, Kenneth Friar, of Austin, Texas; a grandson, Christopher Friar, of Austin, Texas; a granddaughter, Mary Hughes, of Austin, Texas; a grandson, Michael Soderstrom, of Joplin, Missouri; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Carla Jean was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Youngblood; her parents, Charles Anderson Hodges and Alta Lorraine (Evans) Hodges; her sister, Cleo Hodges; her sister, Bonnie (Hodges) Friar; and a daughter, Kathy (Youngblood) Paschal.
Visitation for family, friends, and others whose lives she touched will be at the Harkey Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at the Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
