It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cristina Rey Primera, who left this world peacefully on January 31, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on July 24, 1927, in Presidio, Texas, to Carmen Gonzales Rey and Catalina Fuentes Rey. Cristina enriched the lives of all who knew her during her remarkable journey.
Cristina devoted herself to her family as a loving homemaker, nurturing and raising her daughters and playing an essential role in the lives of her grandchildren. Her dedication as a grandmother was evident through the countless hours she spent with them, imparting wisdom and crafting cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Cristina found joy in gardening, tending to flowers and trees, and she had a special place in her heart for all animals.
In her younger days, Cristina was known for her adventurous spirit, breaking horses with great skill and grace. She embraced her creativity through arts and crafts and found comfort in painting. Additionally, she enjoyed the challenge of shooting, showcasing her diverse interests and zest for life.
Above all, Cristina cherished her faith and her commitment to the church. She was an active member of the local church choir and served as a Eucharistic minister. Her compassionate heart led her to volunteer tirelessly, helping prepare meals for those in need, and nurturing her community through her service.
Funeral services to honor Cristina's life will take place at Harkey Funeral Home starting with a public viewing that will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, with a Rosary being recited in her memory at 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating her life will be held at St. John Catholic Church on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by her burial at the Imperial Cemetery.
Cristina was preceded in death by her husband, Pascual Primera; her parents, Carmen and Catalina Rey; her brothers, Carmen Rey Jr, and Manuel Rey; her great grandsons, Jonathan Valle, and Samuel Martinez.
Cristina is survived by her four beautiful daughters, Elida P. Williams of Byron Center, Michigan, Josie P. Price and her husband, Ira, of Quitman, Texas, Hope P. Ramirez of Keller, Texas, and Cecilia R. Primera of Monahans, Texas; her grandchildren, David Williams, Mark Williams (Amy), Richard Williams and wife, Nicole, John Zendejas, Laura Fuentes, and husband, David, Donna James, Edna Cummings and husband, Bill, Adolfo Ramirez, Len Ramirez, Kelli Brackin, Jacob Martinez, Nicholas Martinez (Marynell); 24 great grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; her sister, Cruz Rey Esparza of San Antonio, Texas; sisters in law, Maria P. Saldana, Tomasa Rey, Mary Primera, Olivia Primera; numerous nephews and nieces, along with a host of extended family and friends.
Pallbearers are as follows: Jacob Martinez, Nick Martinez, Danny Primera, Samuel Esparza, Alfredo Rey, and Adolfo Ramirez.
