During their time of marriage, they started Rafter J Ranch, it was a cattle and horse operation, it was then sold in 1979. Soon they moved closer to town to continue with their horses. She lived in Monahans, Texas from 1946-2009 then moved to Boerne, Texas in 2009-2016 with her youngest daughter Virgil and Tubie Nipper Deason.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Glen Deason, sister, Margaret Deason Reese, grandson, Bret Stuckey and granddaughter Carol Perryman Thompson
Doris King was a wife, mother, homemaker, Christian Church worker whose strong faith sustained her all through her life, grandmother, great grandmother, seamstress, friend to all. Supported 4H Club, adult leader 4H Club, delivered Meals on Wheels, hosted youth events at ranch, transported needy elderly individuals to out of town medical appointments. She was very mild mannered, reserved and kind to all. She never appeared mad or to lose her temper and with some of the antics of her children, this was not an easy virtue to maintain. Doris stayed alone at ranch during the day, traveled 20 miles to town for groceries each Wednesday, as it was Double Stamp day, Church on Sunday and other special meetings. She was a true West Texas ranch woman who loved the land, her family, her friends, her church and life. Her life's example will be almost impossible to ever be repeated.
