Dwain L Welch of Monahans, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2020.
Dwain Welch was born in Gorman, Texas to Shorty and Cleo Welch on December 3, 1934. He went to school and graduated from Pecos High School. He married Nell Warwick on September 6, 1953 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
He worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 42 years eventually becoming the superintendent of the Monahans Area. He also supervised pipeline construction in at least 7 states, as well as offshore. He greatly enjoyed working on the Vest Ranch for many years. His great love was ranching and working with horses and cattle.
He served his country in the Army National Guard of Texas and the U.S. Army Reserves for 11 years.
Dwain is preceded in death by his father, Shorty Welch, and his mother, Cleo Merworth Welch, a brother Durl Welch, sisters Lee Frymire, Jean Lubbe, Maxine Willis, and Glenda Videtto, and brothers in law David Cook and Billy Hanks, and a grandson Taylor Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Welch, children Debbie Gambino (John), Katina Emert (Sammy Prieto), and Leslie Welch, brothers Dex Welch (Doris) and Doak Welch (Beverly), sisters Jerry Cook, Judy Guthrie (Ron), and Kaye Hanks. He is also survived by his grandchildren Fabian Welch (Kimberly), Anthony Welch (Mona), Madison Jolliff (Adam), Megan Read (Tim), and Sarah Johnson (Levi), as well as great grandchildren Bryson Welch, Owen Jolliff, Natalee Read, Brighton Read, and Ellie Read, Elliot Johnson, and Oliver Johnson.
The family of Dwain Welch wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Focus Care at Monahans, Dr. Mallik, Dr. Thaung, Dr. Hillman and the amazing nursing staff at Ward Memorial Hospital.
