Ernesto "Ernest" Ruiz Almanza age 75, began his "fifth day" (passed) on October 27,2015 in Monahans, TX. He was born in Barstow, TX on June 30, 1940 to Roman and Delfina Almanza.
Ernest moved to Monahans in 1957 from Barstow. He went to work for the City of Monahans in 1963 where he learned to run heavy equipment. Ernest worked his way up to Public Works Superintendent during his time with the City. He could be seen in many pictures of the Monahans Newspaper during the summer in the back of the distributor, laying down the asphalt to pave the streets of Monahans. Ernest eventually retired from the City in 1996 after 33 years of service.
Ernest's favorite hobby was "Hating the Cowboys" and loving the Washington Redskins. He was affectionately known to many as "Disco". He and his brother knew each other as "Chayo". Another one of his favorite hobbies was playing pool. Being that Barstow was a small town, he grew up playing pool at his grandfather's pool hall in Barstow. Even though he was right handed he shot a mean game of pool with his left hand. Ernest was still old school, as he loved to wear his "Stacy Adams" shoes on a daily basis. His other favorite hobby was watching his grandkids and great grandkids. He would ask on how they were doing and would get a smile when he knew that they were doing well.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents Roman and Delfina Almanza, a brother, Daniel and nephews and niece. Who are all now enjoying each other's company.
Ernest was a Catholic and lived his Cursillo early in his life. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 29th at 7:00pm at St John Catholic Church in Monahans. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 30th at St John Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Burial to follow at the Monahans Cemetery. He is survived by three sons, Mario (Rosie), Orlando (Leticia) and Rene (Shelly), his daughter: Delilah (Michael) all of Monahans. As many knew Dad struggled with his health since the year 2000, He now "Walks with Jesus and See's what everyone wishes to see."
