Florine Elizabeth Avary, 93, of Odessa, Texas, died Saturday„ April 22, 2017, at her residence in Odessa, Texas. She was born in Stephensvillle, Texas on June 13, 1923 to Cecil and Eva Turner. She married Robert Avary in Kermit, Texas on January 8, 1938 resulting in 75 years of marriage.
Florine lived In Monahans, Texas most of her life where she and Robert owned a feed store. Later on, they bought the Dairy Maid and built "Bob's" drive through which were popular places.to eat and visit.
Flo loved her family dearly and they, in turn, dearly loved her.
Flo and Robert became interested and involved in musical antiques which they would buy and restore. They displayed many of their musical antiques at the Monahans Sandhills museum. They later moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, and displayed their musical antiques at White City. Also Flo worked as head checker at Furr s' food store. Later, Flo and Robert moved to Highland Haven, Texas where they retired.
Although Flo never graduated from high school, she had no problems obtaining jobs. Once she secured a Job, no matter what field or position. she advanced quickly.
Flo could do anything with her hands. She was great in needle work of all types, oil painting and water coloring, decorating, wood craft, making her daughters' and granddaughters' clothes, and her favorite, quilting.
Flo worked beside Robert In constructing and remodeling their homes, barns, fences, corrals, and places of work. She also drove their big truck to haul hay and feed for their feed store. She would load and unload the hay and feed for customers if she was the one minding the store. She also worked with Robert in their other places of business.
Flo was a friend to have. She loved volunteering for organizations when asked, especially the schools. and enjoyed granting favors to her many friends.
Flo is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Eva Turner; sister, Lois Wofford; brothers, Horace and Junior Turner, plus her aunts, uncles and many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Avary; granddaughter, Sofia Avary Aguayo; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her long time friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Apri} 29, 2017 at the Monahans Memorial Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev., Dr. Mark Bristow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated to the Animal Control or Animal Shelter of your choice.
