George Albert Hemond was born in Providence, Rhode Island on November 17, 1943 to Gaeten A. Hemond and Irene R. Lagace. George departed this Earth on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the age of 76.
After attending Blackstone High School in Blackstone, Massachusetts, George joined the Air Force and learned to work on planes. He fondly recalled his time stationed in Berlin, Germany. Returning home he entered college before he finally decided to work his way around the states. He ended up visiting his brother in Abilene and while there participated in theater. There he met his first wife, Genieva. They moved to Monahans where they raised six children. George worked in the oil fields doing many various jobs.
With his second wife Mary, they carved out a niche. He enjoyed going to sing karaoke and to dance. He really enjoyed getting to visit family and became a big part of the Moore reunion held annually by his wife’s family. He was always visibly brightened when visiting with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Mary Mitchell and son David Mitchell, grandchildren Rodney Crawford and Denna Mitchell.
George is survived by his wife Mary, children Rita Crawford and husband Steve, Son Dennon Mitchell and wife Brenda, Kenneth Mitchell and wife Krissy, Travis Whidden, and Wanda Meeks. Twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. His sister Jeanne Swartz; his brothers Richard Hemond and wife Beverly, Ronald Hemond and wife Judy, and Arthur Hemond.
