Ida Lucille Herrington, 92, died June 4, 2020 at her Monahans home.
Lucille was born December 28, 1927 in Phoenix, Arizona to Paul Valentine Robinson and Florence Etta (Thompson) Robinson. She married J.C. Herrington August 3, 1945.
Lucille was known as a woman with a heart for her family and her community. During her marriage, Lucille and J.C. moved their family several times across the U.S. with his work. After the death of J.C. in 1975, she settled in Monahans and managed several rental properties. She also owned and managed Sunshine Health Food Store for several years.
Many friends and family also knew her as a cultivator of delicious pecans and a bit of a culinary artist; she took many prizes at the Ward County Pecan Show over the years.
An active volunteer at the Ward County Senior Citizens’ Center, Lucille delivered meals on wheels to Monahans residents for over twenty-five, retiring just after her 90th birthday. She was an active member of the Sands Art Association and participated in Toastmasters for several years.
An artist at heart, Lucille enjoyed painting, sewing, hand quilting, and a wide variety of fiber arts. She was also an avid bowler, and she spent many evenings over the years at Ward Lanes in the company of friends. She also traveled widely with her team to compete in state and national competitions.
Lucille was proud of her five children and of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made many precious memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the Monahans Sandhills State Park and at her home.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Herrington, in 1975. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, her mother, Florence Etta, and her father, Paul Valentine Robinson.
Lucille is survived by her daughters Cheryl Voliva, Rebecca Herrington, Shirley Martin (Mat Martin), Cynthia Russell, and her son, J.C. Herrington Jr., as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, along with numerous friends and extended family. She was buried in a private ceremony on Monday, June 8, 2020.
