Inez U. Vasquez, 81, of Monahans died Saturday, October 29th, at Ward Memorial Hospital. Inez was born October 3, 1935 in Grandfalls, Texas to Romana and Justo Vasquez. He was raised and educated in Grandfalls. He moved to Monahans and began working for Texas Furniture Store and later McLain Truck Stop and Service Station. In the mid 1970's, Inez began working as a lease operator for Gulf Oil Company (later becoming Chevron), and retired in 1996. After retiring from Chevron, he worked several years for Ward County at the annex building. Inez was a member and deacon at Grace Fellowship Church in Monahans. In his retirement, he regularly met his friends for lunch at the Ward County Senior Center and could be found having coffee at McDonalds. He married Asteria Lujan in Pecos, Texas on December 9, 1956.
Inez was preceded in death by his son; Eduardo "Edd" Vasquez, his brothers; Manuel and Luciano Vasquez, and his sister; Francisca Lara.
Survivors include his wife of just short of 60 years Asteria Vasquez of Monahans, his children; David Vasquez and his wife Margie, Alicia Chavez, Cris Jaquez and her husband Jack, Abel Vasquez and his wife April, and Gracie Vasquez. Grandchildren; Hannah, Christopher, Daniel, Andrew, Ariana, Amanda, Jack Jr., and Timothy. Great-Grandchildren; Mia, Bella, Sophie, Connor, Alyssa, and Blakely.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 1st at Grace Fellowship Church, 1200 Wilma St, with Mark Bristo officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery. Inez will lie in state at Harkey Funeral Home for visitation Monday October 31st from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
