During his time as a beloved and dedicated educator in Monahans, Jim was nominated for and received several awards including the Monahans Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Award and the 'Tepsan of the Year' Award from the Texas Elementary Principals Association, both in 1988. After their retirements, Jim and Helen traveled extensively in their RV. They loved their travels and made many close friendships all over the United States.
