Joseph (Joey) K. Lewis, of Sierra Blanca, Texas, passed away on January 14, 2025, at 6:30 a.m. He was the beloved son of Jake and Helen Lewis, of Monahans, Texas, and brother to Jimmy Lewis and Lexie Lewis, also of Monahans, born on September 29, 1962, in Monahans, Texas.

Joey graduated from Grandfalls-Royalty High School, in 1981, where he was president of the Future Farmers of America and played football for the school team, the Cowboys, wearing the number 67 jersey.

Soon after graduation, he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Corporal in the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, 1st Division. Joey served as a Supply Administration Operations Clerk. Joey was stationed at both Camp Pendleton, CA and Okinawa, Japan. During his tenure, Joey was awarded Rifle Expert, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Navy Achievement Medal. Joey served active duty for three years and spent three more years in the Marine Corps Reserves. He was honorably discharged and lived the rest of his life as a proud Marine Corps Veteran.

After the Marine Corps, he worked for Warren Petroleum, for a brief stint, before joining the United States Border Patrol. Joey entered on duty, with the Border Patrol, on November 15th, 1992. Joey was promoted to the title of Senior Patrol Agent in 2005, and, on November 21, 2010, he was promoted to the title of Supervisory Border Patrol Agent. On August 22nd, 2015, Joey hung up his gun belt, for the last time, and retired.

During his time in the Border Patrol, Joey was stationed at the Ysleta, Texas Border Patrol Station, the Sierra Blanca, Texas Border Patrol Station, the Fort Hancock, Texas Border Patrol Station and finished his career at the Van Horn, Texas Border Patrol Station. During his career in the Border Patrol, Joey was a certified Firearms Instructor and volunteered for numerous details in Arizona, spending time in Casa Grande and Ajo. Joey was not only extremely proud to serve as a Border Patrol Agent, but he also had a very sincere love of dogs. While in the Border Patrol, Joey rescued more than 20 dogs he encountered on duty, giving them a forever home.

Joey held his beloved Marines Corps, the Border Patrol, his family, friends and his dogs close to his heart. His most treasured memories will always include hunting and fishing down in Mexico. One thing Joey will always be remembered for saying is, “We will all meet at the river”.
