Jose Vasquez

Jose "Joe" Vasquez, 86, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born March 27, 1929 in Barstow, TX to Neponuseno and Maria (Salazar) Vasquez.

On January 12, 1947, he married Hipolita "Pola" Oyerbides in Monahans. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2013.

Joe and his wife lived in Monahans for 60 years. He was a longtime minister of the Spanish Church of Christ and was very active in many aspects of the church. He owned and operated Joe's Barber Shop for 56 years. He enjoyed people and was a very social man. He loved music and could play several instruments. Family was everything to Joe and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; he and Pola moved to Midland in 2003 where they were closer to family.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Hipolita Vasquez; brothers, Domingo S. Vasquez, Apolonio S. Vasquez, and Anastacio S. Vasquez; and sisters, Alvina V. Chapa, Paula V. Jaramillo, and Margarita V. Bustamante.

Joe is survived by his son, Ruben Oyerbides Vasquez and wife Tuly of Midland; daughters, Christina V. Subia and husband Ygnacio L. Subia, Jr., Maria Elena Vasquez, Juliana Oyerbides Vasquez, and Priscilla Vasquez Garcia, all of Midland; sister, Jesusita Vasquez Lopez; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 9 AM - 8 PM and Friday, October 16, 2015 from 9 AM - 7 PM at Harkey Funeral Home. Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday from 4 - 8 PM. A prayer service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 PM at 3rd & Dwight Church of Christ. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11 AM at 3rd & Dwight Church of Christ, followed by interment at Monahans Memorial Cemetery. Gabriel R. Vasquez, Michael J. Fuentes, Ygnacio "Chito" L. Subia, III, Jacob L. Fuentes, Joseph R. Vasquez, and Fabian J. Fuentes will serve as pallbearers. Adam J. Fuentes is an honorary pallbearer.
