Mary Ramirez Breceda, age 89, who was a long-time resident of Monahans was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 3, 2022.
Mary was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Virginia and Ventura Mendoza on April 13, 1933. She was raised in Barstow, Texas and as a young teenager she moved to Monahans where she lived the rest of her life.
She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a hard worker all her life and was a wonderful cook. She cooked and was as a kitchen manager for several restaurants in Monahans through the years including McLain’s and the Colonial Inn Best Western.
Mary was also a business owner. She and her first husband owned BJ’s Upholstery which they worked out of their home for over 3o years. She was a talented craftsman and the business was known throughout the area for turning old furniture into new. Mary was also the owner of Mary’s Deli for several years which was a local favorite and she never turned anyone away if they couldn’t pay for a meal.
Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and she lived by her faith in the Lord and she was a wonderful example to all that knew her. She enjoyed music and in her younger years also enjoyed dancing but her true joy was spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Manuel Perez, her daughter Anita Gonzales, sisters: Raquel Avila of Barstow, Carmen Hignojos of Pecos, Inocencia (Chenta) of Midland, Sara Holbrook of Monahans and brothers: Chalado Mendoza of Van Horn, Eutimio (Timo) Perrez of El Paso and Juan Perez of Van Horn.
She is survived by her husband Eulalio (Lalo) Breceda of Monahans, her son Reverend Jesus Gonzales and his wife Becky of New Orleans, stepsons Lalo Breceda Jr (Yolanda) of Monahans and Delfonso(Poncho) Breceda (Natalia) of Denton, brother Genaro Mendoza (Tomasa) of Pecos, sister Virginia Wilson of Balmorhea, her grandkids Reverend Lonnie Gonzales (Joy), Bernice Gonzales, Reverend Ben Gonzales (Katherine), Laura Thompson, Christina Gonzales, Victoria Ashley (Nevin) and Elizabeth Deeley (Christopher). She was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her very much.
Visitation will be at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel of Monahans on Thursday, October 6th from 9 am – 6 pm with a rosary also there starting at 6pm. A funeral service will be at 10 am on Friday at the funeral home with Reverend Mike Fickvensher of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff, nurses and doctors at Focused Care Nursing Home of Monahans where Mary was cared for the last five years of her life.
