Marie Drea was called home to God Tuesday May 15.
She was the daughter of James and Mamie Mitchell. She was born in Burkburnett, Texas on June 16, 1924.
She had 6 brothers. She lost her Mother when she was 9 and lost her Father when she was 22.
Her brother Bob was best friends in World War II with a guy from Illinois named Joe Drea. During the war Joe and Marie began to write each other. They fell in love with these letters. After the war, Joe went to Pampa and Marie and him got on a bus to Illinois where they got married.
They soon had a daughter named Mary Ann. She died 3 days after being born. After 9 more years, they decided to adopt a child. They adopted Mark. They got him Jan. 2s1 t, 1956. Joe worked in the coal mines in Illinois. In 1959 they decided to move to Monahans where his best friend and Mother's brother Bob lived. They had been coming to Monahans on vacations and they loved the town and the climate. Mother always said one the happiest things ever was when she got to move back to Texas. 10 years later they applied to adopt another child. They got Nancy at that time in December 1965.
Marie was a member of First Baptist Church in Monahans for 59 years. She loved the church. Even in her later years and her health went down, she would do everything possible to make it to Sunday School and Church services.
She was friends with everyone she met. Mark says she was by far the funniest, most quick-witted person he ever met. As friends and family would call or come over after her passing, the first thing out of everyone's mouth was how funny she was. They talked how wonderful it was to be around her. If there was laughter coming from the next room, Marie was probably in there. Especially if she was with Marie Casey. Those two were better than any comedy team. Mark said there was nothing he enjoyed more than watching TV, sitting on the porch, or going to Odessa with his Mother. Mark said no matter what we were doing, we would be cracking up the whole time.
Marie is survived by her son Mark Drea and her daughter Nancy Fine both of Monahans. Her Grandson Patrick Heflin and his wife April of Monahans, her Great Grand Daughters Zayrah Sanchez, Prarrie Heflin, Lilly Heflin and Bella Heflin. One Great Grandson Nathan Heflin.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband; Joseph L. Drea, daughter; Mary Ann Drea, and grandson; Steven Joseph Drea.
She was loved by all of Mark's and Nancy's friends. They have been calling and expressing their love and sadness of the passing of their Mother Mark and Nancy wish to express a special thank-you to Barbara Carrasco and son B.J. for loving support during Mother passing.
Nothing made Marie happier than when the Grand Kids would come over to see her. Marie loved her doggies, Chow boy, Sass Frass and now Pickles and Mindy.
