Mary Powers

Mary Elizabeth Powers, 92 of Monahans died Friday May 31st at Focus Care Center. She was born May 17, 1927 in Jourdanton, Texas to Arvel Aston and Lucille Aston. They moved to Eastland where she was reared. Mary met her husband of 74 years Raymond Powers in Eastland, where they married on January 16, 1945. After living in various Humble camps the Powers moved to Monahans in 1959. She graduated in 1962 with a degree in nursing from Odessa College. She worked at the hospital and for several local physicians. In 1981 the Powers retired and traveled in their RV. They enjoyed traveling, visiting family and their traveling friends, and playing all kinds of games. In the early 2000s the Powers began to limit their travels. They were both active members of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by her husband of 74 years Raymond Powers; her daughter Lawana Poer of Colorado Springs, CO; her son Lavoyd Powers of Bandera,Texas, four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son Gayland Powers, brother Dub Gunn, and her parents Arvel and Lucille Aston.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. June 5, 2019 at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel with Joshua Rieff officiating, burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
