Melida Daugherty

Melida Wilson Daugherty, 81, known as Gam, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 at home in Monahans, Texas. She was born on April 12, 1936 to Chester Wilson and Lena Rasdon in Caraway, Arkansas. Melida married Troy Lee Daugherty on September 20, 1951 in Arkansas, he passed away after 32 years of married.

Dr. Chandler delivered Melida in Caraway, Arkansas but really a midwife, sister Mary, beat the doctor! She was raised by her grandmother Wilson. Melida has one brother and eight sisters, she always said she was an only child! She was a beautiful woman but she hated having her picture taken, but always wanted to see others. She played a wicked game of Wa-Hoo, just ask any of her grandchildren! Gam was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, if they would only listen to her! Gam's favorite Texas Ranger was Shin-Soo Choo, who she called Choo-Choo, her second favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved to watch game shows on TV. Most of all Gam loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was welcomed to Heaven in the arms of our Lord and her husband; Troy Lee Daugherty, infant sister; Jimmie Louise, one brother; Bill Fletcher, one sister; Ruth Fletcher Hillhouse, a special friend; Jack Dufek, and one great granddaughter; Shyanne Johnston, father; Chester Wilson, and mother; Lena Rasdon Alsup and husband Roy.

Gam is survived by her daughters; Rhonda Gallagher and husband Danny of Monahans, Texas, Teresa Johnston and husband Donnie of Canadian, Texas, five grandchildren; Zachary Gallagher, Quentin Gallagher and wife Shana, Korah Gallagher, Bryan Johnston and wife Calissa, Brady Johnston, great grandchildren; Kaitlyne and Keagan Gallagher, Brenley and Bay Atkinson, Bryleigh, Lily, and Emery Johnston, step mother; Veola Wilson of Paragould, Arkansas, sisters; Glenna Wilson Jarvis and husband Ron of Lawton, Oklahoma, Joyce Wilson Branch and husband Kenny of Paragould, Arkansas, Bonnie Alsups McCord and husband Johnny of Caraway, Arkansas, Shirley Wilson Veteto and husband Lee (deceased) of Albany, Georgia, Karla Wilson Wooldridge and husband Ben of Paragould, Arkansas, Marsha Wilson Morris and husband Clifton of Jonesboro, Arkansas, many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and life time friends; Mary Faulkner and husband Harvey and family of Caraway, Arkansas.
