Announcing the passing of Mike E. Oyerbides, aged 89, his journey on this Earth came to a peaceful close on Friday, April 5, 2024, in his Monahans, Texas home. Mike was born to Adan and Juliana Oyerbides and entered this world on February 6, 1935. He was a proud Monahans High School alum and dedicated over 50 years of service in the oilfield industry as a drilling consultant. A man of many talents, Mike also honorably served in the United States National Guard.
Throughout his life, Mike embodied love and devotion in his roles as a husband, father, son, grandfather, and self-proclaimed “Dog Dad.” Among his passions were playing the guitar, creating intricate woodwork and carvings, and his deep appreciation for nature, once even uncovering a dinosaur’s tail. Animals, particularly his cherished dogs, held a special place in his heart.
Preceding Mike in death are his beloved wife, Elidia C. Oyerbides; his parents, Adan and Juliana E. Oyerbides; brother, Celestino Oyerbides; sister, Hipipola E. Vasquez; grandson, Joshua Binghams; and various uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by his children: son, Gilbert C. Oyerbides and wife, Paula; daughter, Grace Aguirre of Houston, Tx; son, Adam Joe Oyerbides and wife, Jenesse of Arlington, Tx ; daughter, Carol Nunez and husband, David; daughter, Donna Oyerbides; as well as his dear "dog daughter" Roxy. Mike’s memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home. A funeral service in honor of Mike’s life will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Grace Fellowship, followed by his interment at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers designated to carry Mike to his final resting place reflect the love and respect he inspired in all of them, they are listed as follows. Oyerbides, Michael Joseph Oyerbides, Robert Aguirre, Librado (David Lee) Nunez, Seth Oyerbides, Ezekiel Nunez, Ayejay Oyerbides, and Marilyn Alvarado, standing in for Joshua Bingham.
