Norma Lavada Caldwell

May 26, 1932 — March 15, 2025

Monahans, Texas

Norma Lavada Caldwell is now walking the streets of gold and has reunited with her loved ones who went before her. She took her last breath on Earth on March 15, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM.

Norma was a retired cook from Monahans High School and was residing at Monahans Managed Care at the time of her passing.

She was a talented cook, an avid reader, and a skilled seamstress. In her later years, before arthritis affected her hands, she enjoyed crocheting. Norma made most of our clothes while we were growing up, combining different patterns and allowing us to choose the materials. The end result always looked as if the garments came straight from a department store. Her love for reading and her feisty spirit remained with her until her final moments.

Once we were grown, we were always welcome in her home, but we had to follow her rules!

Norma was a devoted Christian who attended the Monahans Christian Church until it closed its doors. Even though she could no longer attend services, her devotion to God remained strong.

Born on May 26, 1932, in Lynn County, Texas, she was welcomed into the world by her parents, Charles Ezra and Cleo Hendricks, along with her older brother, C.W. Hendricks. She later welcomed two more brothers, W.L. "Rusty" Hendricks and Donald Ray Hendricks.

On November 18, 1947, in Seagraves, Texas, Norma married the love of her life, Harvey Lee Calwell. Together, they had three daughters: Marjorie Elaine Fair, Margarete Lynn McCumsey, and Norma Denise Valles.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ezra and Cleo Hendricks; her brothers, C.W., W.L. "Rusty," and Donald Ray Hendricks; her husband, Harvey Lee Calwell; her daughter, Margarete Lynn McCumsey; her grandson, Stacy Lee Clark; and one great-great-grandson.

She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Elaine Fair, and daughter Norma Denise Valles (married to Pablo), along with her grandchildren: Wendy Fuller (married to John), Christopher McCumsey, Travis Clark, Corey Valles, Marirose Wright, and Allison Diaz-Granados. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Harkey Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, officiated by Pastor Stan Huffty, with burial following at Monahans Cemetery.
