Raymond Richard Powers, 98 of Monahans died Thursday June 6th at Focus Care Center. He was born on January 27, 1921 to James and Maggie Powers in Seymour, Texas.
Raymond and his family moved to the Cisco, Texas area where the family farmed. He entered the United States Army in November 1940 and served in Italy where he was wounded. Raymond was discharged November 1944. He returned to Eastland after discharged where he met his wife, Mary Aston. They were married in Eastland on January 16, 1945. He then joined Humble Oil Co. and the family lived in various Humble camps prior to moving to Monahans in 1959. Raymond and Mary retired in 1981 and began their adventures of traveling in their RV. They enjoyed traveling, visiting family and their traveling friends, and playing all kinds of games. In the early 2000's the Powers began to limit their travels. The Powers were active members of the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Monahans Masonic Lodge.
Raymond is survived by his daughter Lawana Poer of Colorado Springs, CO; his son Lavoyd Powers of Bandera,Texas, four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Powers, son Gayland Powers, his brothers J.R. Powers, Buddy Powers, and his sisters Faye Whellis, Pauline Weed, Inez Woodfin.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at Harkey Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. June 8, 2019 at Southside Baptist Church with Joshua Rieff officiating, burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
