Reba Mccormick

Reba Naomi (Smith) McCormick, 82, passed from this life January 21, 2017, in Las Cruces, New Mexico surrounded by her family. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, she was a long-time resident of Wickett, Texas. Born in Bristow, Oklahoma September 4th, 1934 to parents Reuben R. and Vera G. Smith; later moving as a young child to a ranch south of Wickett, Texas managed by her dad. Later the family moved to Wickett and she entered the Monahans-Wickett Independent School system graduating from Monahans High School in 1953. During high school Reba worked at Monahans Drug Store where she met her future husband Jim Conley McCormick and they married January 30th, 1953. They made their home in Wickett, Texas where they raised three sons, Jim Jr, Shane and Collin. They lived in the same location for nearly 60 years before moving to Las Cruces to be near their children. Her passion was her family, including her husband of 61 years, her three sons, their wives, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She had a strong faith in God and attended church on a weekly basis for the rest of her life. She also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, poetry, traveling to the mountains and visiting the local Sandhills State Park. She was very active in her church and in the regular study of the Bible. Reba was preceded in death by her father and mother, Reuben and Vera Smith, her husband, Jim Conley McCormick, her older sister Mary Freda Roush of Lubbock, Texas and her younger brother Neal Lavaughn Smith of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her three sons Jim Conley McCormick Jr and his wife Viola, Shane Allen McCormick and his wife Debbie, Collin Kelly McCormick and his wife Marisa, her brothers Ronnie L. Smith and his wife Jean, Michael Dale Shane Smith and his wife Theda and 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of the family, friends, caregivers and others who offered their love and support to both Jim and Reba, especially over these past months.
