Monahans

Sandra Fay Berry Calahan was born December 7, 1954 to Lewis Macon and Atha Lee Esters.Berry in Ft. Worth Texas. Sandra was lucky to be able to grow up in the same home from birth until adult hood. She formed many lifelong friendships with classmates in the Retta/Rendon community. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1973. She loved working for Harris Graphics. in Kennedale and worked two years before meeting the love of her life Barry in 1978. The two were introduced by close friends Barbara and Steve. Barry and Sandra wed on March 17, 1979, during spring break at Retta Baptist Church, with H.S. Calahan Jr. (the grooms Father) officiating.   The couple then moved to Marshall, Texas where Barry was a student @ East Texas Baptist College. Sandra worked at various jobs in Marshall, until being hired at Marshall Exploration, an oil field exploration company, a job she really enjoyed. Sandra gave birth to her first daughter Amy in October 1981. After Barry’s graduation from ETBC the family moved to Retta/Rendon area so that Barry could attend Seminary. Sandra worked at Speed Fab Crete until she was able to go back to work at Harris Graphics, again, as the Human Resources Assistant. The family then moved to Alamogordo, NM in the summer of 1986 after Barry accepted a Music Ministry position at Bethel Baptist Church. Sandra gave birth to her twin girls, Bethany and Kristin, in Alamogordo in August of 1988. Sandra hoped to be a stay at home mom, but, after a short break she reentered the work force; working mostly in children’s day care programs. The family then moved to Carlsbad NM in 1996 when Barry accepted a position at Blodgett Street Baptist Church. Sandra worked at First United Methodist Church pre-school for 6 years before working as the receptionist/secretary at Beeman Accounting for 5 years. After the twins graduated high school, Barry, Sandra and Amy moved to Monahans Texas in 2008, where Barry started a position at Southside Baptist Church. Shortly after the move, Sandra’s mother moved in and she cared for her. The following year Barry’s parents moved in. Sandra spent the rest of her life caring for elderly parents and loving on grandbabies. Her grandbabies were the light of her world. Sandra always enhanced and supported Barry’s ministries by teaching children’s Sunday School, singing in the church choir, leading children’s choir, and serving in the preparation of food, along with many other behind the scenes acts of love and compassion.  The couple formed many wonderful friendships in each church where they ministered together.  Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Roger Berry and Lyndon Berry. She is survived by her husband, Barry Calahan, daughter Amy, daughter Kristin and husband James, daughter Bethany Fuentes and husband Josh, grandchildren, Logan & Karson Fuentes, Ethan & Laurel Dowlen, sister Joyce Morris, her husband Rich and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Sandra went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 28, 2020 after a two year battle with cancer.
