Ted Ward was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Cecile Atkinson Ward and Theodore G. Ward on November 20, 1923. He graduated from high school in Magnolia, Arkansas. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Maxine Harmon on December 27, 1942. They both started college at Southern Arkansas in Magnolia after high school. They were married for 63 years until her death in 2006. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. After the war he attended Oklahoma University where he graduated with honors with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked as a Petroleum Engineer for over 60 years and was well respected among his peers. His career brought him to Monahans in 1951, and he was supposed to stay a year! He loved the people and Monahans so much that he stayed for 67 years where he raised his family. He served on the Monahans City Council for 21 years and was still on the council at the time of his death. He also served as Mayor Pro-Tem since 2001. He loved his church and served in many capacities. It will never be the same for church members as he was there greeting them as an usher for over 60 years! He was selected Monahans ‘Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1994. He was named to the Permian Basin Senior Hall of Fame in 1999. He loved being a part of the Senior Center in Monahans and served on their board. Wednesdays were special days as he always looked forward to lunch with his friends at Rotary. He learned to play bridge at age 82 and enjoyed the company of Janet Ellison as a bridge
partner and very good friend. He was busy, active, and involved with friends, family, and community until a little over a month ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine and his son Michael H. Ward, his parents Cecile and T. G. Ward Sr., his sister Louise Lewis, and his brother, Sam L. Ward.
He is survived by his son Ted G. Ward III and his wife Carolyn Lowe Ward of McKinney, his grandsons Joel T. Ward and Tim M. Ward of McKinney, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Forrest and her husband, Don of Odessa. He had many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Junior".
Ted Ward Jr. was a loved member of the Monahans community and is already being missed by so many friends and family. He had a strong faith in God and has joined his beloved Maxine and many other loved ones. We are sure that God said, "Well done good and faithful servant".
