Wanda Davis

Wanda Gay Davis, of Wickett, went home to be with the Lord on February 26, 2020.  She was ready to rest after a lengthy battle with heart issues.  She was a wife and homemaker.  Her family was her world.

Wanda was born on May 20, 1948 in Kermit, TX to Charlie and Susie Jones.  She attended schools in Jal, NM where she grew up.  Wanda married her husband of 52 years, Murl Davis II, on June 9, 1967 in Jal where they made their home until 1972.  The family moved to Wickett where she helped Murl run M.L. Davis Roustabout Service until their retirement in 2004.

Wanda was a staunch supporter of Gensler Elementary in Wickett where she served as President of the PTA for several years.  She was also leader of the Wickett 4-H Club for many years.  As well, Wanda was a long serving board member for the Ward County Livestock Show and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Monahans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Lynda Thurmond and two brothers, James and Gerald Jones.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Murl, of Wickett, her three sons: Bryan and wife Bethann, Roy and wife Jolene, and Murl III and wife Stephanie, all from Wickett, one brother, Jimmy Jones of Baird, TX, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2020 at Harkey Funeral Home from 6 pm to 8 pm, and funeral services will be Saturday Feb. 29, 2020 at 10:30 am at Southside Baptist Church, with Dr. Allie Balko officiating.  Burial will be at Monahans Cemetery.
