William Aubrey Shoemake

William A. Shoemake, 88, of Monahans, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

Mr. Shoemake will be in state from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Harkey Funeral Home with a visitation scheduled from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Southside Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Rieff officiating. Interment to follow at the Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

William was born December 27, 1934, in Wickett, Texas to Willard and Carolyn Shoemake. William graduated from Monahans High School in 1953. He then went on to get his bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University in 1958 and his Master of Education degree in 1974 from Sul Ross University. He met and married Helen Owens in Aiken, South Carolina. William moved back to Monahans to start his family and begin teaching, where he taught for many years until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of his church Southside Baptist for many years.

William is preceded in death by both his parents; his wife, Helen; his sister, Barbara.

He is survived by two sons, Travis Shoemake from Houston, Texas and Kerry Shoemake and wife, Donna from Rowlett, Texas; two granddaughters, Jessica Koenigseder and husband, Joel, and Jenna Rejcek and husband, Adam; along with several other cousins and loved ones. William will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
