William Travis "Bill" White, our "Papaw", was 93 years old and lived in Kermit. Bill White passed from this world in Odessa, Texas on Thursday, September 1, 2016 and joined the love of his life Kathleen Elizabeth White "Mimi". Bill was born July 17, 1923 in Gorman, Texas to Onus Evangeline and Robert Isaac White. He was raised and educated in Grandfalls, Texas where he met his sweetheart Kathleen. Bill married Kathleen Elizabeth Mitchell on March 23, 1943 in Grandfalls, and they had 4 beautiful children. Bill entered the US Army on February 10, 1943, he was an airplane and engine mechanic in the Army Air Corp and was discharged on February 10, 1946. After his discharge he returned to Grandfalls and began working at Standard Oil, later becoming Chevron. The White's moved to Kermit on August 1, 1960 where they raised their family and made priceless memories. Papaw and Mimi were avid Kermit Yellow Jacket fans for many years and were honored with the "Most Spirited Fan" Award. They loved to follow all Kermit youth sports and their grandkids events. Papaw served as a Winkler County Commissioner for 8 years and served on the hospital board for many years. He was a member and deacon of Kermit's First Baptist Church, and a member of the masonic lodge in Kermit. Bill played basketball in Mentone and tennis in Grandfalls. Papaw was dearly loved by the Kermit community and by everyone who knew him. On September 1, 2001, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years - exactly 15 years apart.
Mr. White is survived by his children; son, Travis G. White and his wife Joanne; daughters, Judy Evelyn Wyles and her husband Michael, Carol Ann Hogue, and Peggy Louise Bennett and her husband Jim. His sister, Ruby and Albert Gallas, sister-in-law Louise White and special friend Pat Finley.
His grandchildren, Lee White, Trey Wyles, Julie Adams, Alan Wyles, Todd Cox, Kimberly Aderholt, Kenny Cox, Jeramie Hogue, Cody Barkley, Bailey Barkley, Kyler Barkley, and Kim Green. Great Grandchildren; Hayley Wyles, Tatum Wyles, Preston Wyles, Landrey Wyles, Ashley Evjen, Derek Cox, Heath Adams, Will Adams, Tanner Adams, Annie Adams, Hagen Aderholt, Hunter Aderholt, Sasha Lewis, Jordan Wyles, Bailey Wyles, Reese Wyles, Carsen Cox, Zachary Hogue, Hope Hogue, Codye Kruger, Ranley Kruger, Kylie Hogue, Dayton Barkley, Ella Barkley, Hudson Barkley, Brennan Barkley, Grayson Barkley, Clara Barkley, Abby Green, and Davis Green. Great Great Grandchildren; Blakeley Evjen and Alyssa Evjen. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. White will lie in state at Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans, visitation with family and friends will be Sunday, September 4, 2016, with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, September 5, 2016 in Kermit at the First Baptist Church with Bailey Barkley and Dudley Mullins officiating, burial to follow in Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. White will be Trey Wyles, Alan Wyles, Todd Cox, Kenny Cox, Jeramie Hogue, Kyler Barkley, Cody Barkley, Bailey Barkley, and Lee White.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cal Farley Boys Ranch of the Kermit Yellow Jacket Booster Club of your choice.
